Through a variety of creative and practical activities, pupils are taught the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage in an iterative process of designing and making. Students will be taught to prepare and cook a range of nutritionally balanced dishes safely and hygienically. The course aims to extend students knowledge and understanding of food, health and diet, further developing their practical skills in food preparation and different cooking techniques enabling them to make informed decisions about their own diet and food choices.

In Year 7, students begin developing basic skills. They are encouraged to follow basic recipes and develop key skills in food preparation and hygiene. Students are taught how to chop foods safely and hygienically as well as how to use equipment correctly.

During Year 8 and Year 9, students build upon the basic skills learnt in Year 7.
